Ellen Moore, Manager

Ms. Moore holds an impressive resume of professional health and fitness certifications. She is a certified personal trainer, which demonstrates expertise in “risk factor screening, fitness assessment, nutrition, exercise science, exercise programming with appropriate progressions, instructional and spotting techniques, lifestyle modification coaching and professional scope of practice,” according to the requirements of the American Council on Exercise.

Additionally she is a certified Group Exercise Instructor, which demonstrates her understanding of anatomy, kinesiology, exercise physiology and instructional techniques including class design, cueing and injury prevention. She is also certified in Cardio Kickboxing instruction, water aerobics and CRP/AED and first aid.

Moore’s passion for fitness began in high school where she ran cross county for Hopewell Valley High School in New Jersey and held Mercer County’s cross country and mile record. After attending college and receiving an Associate’s Degree in Special Education, Moore began teaching aerobics at the Fitness Corner health club in Pennington, NJ, nearly 16 years ago.  She relocated to Rock Hall, MD, in 2000. Since then, she has taught a multitude of very popular fitness classes for Kent County Parks and Recreation, Queen Anne’s County Parks and Recreation, Kent Athletic and Wellness Center and Washington College.  In her spare time, Moore can be found jogging the country roads in Kent County with her husband, Steve, or running after their six children, who range in age from two to 15.

Karen Unruh, Certified Massage Therapist

My name is Karen Unruh. I have been a licensed massage therapist since 2007 when I graduated from Potomac Massage Training Institute in Washington, D.C. (www.PMTI.org). I am trained in Swedish (relaxation), Deep Tissue (focused on tension relief), Pregnancy, Geriatric and Hot Stone massage.

I offer client-centered sessions tailored to your needs. If you're not sure what style of massage is right for you, we will figure it out together. During your session, you will be covered by a sheet and blanket at all times, except for the areas I am working. If you've never had a massage I can answer any questions you have. I have heard many people say they don't get massages because they are ashamed of their body. Please don't feel that way. All are welcome to come and enjoy a massage with no judgments!! Some people also say that massage has hurt them in the past. That is not my style.

The professional electric-lift massage table supports clients weights up to 350 pounds, and is easily lowered far any client that needs a transfer onto the table from a wheelchair. If you have trouble lying on your back, you can lay on your side for the massage.

In my life before massage, I graduated from the University of Maryland in 1978 with a degree in Law Enforcement, and recently retired fro ma 33 year career in the FBI.

Please call me for an appointment: 410-404-0155. I am available almost anytime that AquaFit is open. I look forward to working with you! And remember AquaFit sells massage gift certificates for the special people in your life.
